Crypto tax toolImports wallets, finds gainsExport fileYour gains in one fileTurboTaxOnline or Desktop The tool does the math. TurboTax files the return.

A crypto tax tool imports your exchange and wallet history and calculates the gain or loss on each sale. The tool then gives you a file that you upload into TurboTax.

Short answer

Nine of the 13 tools we rank export a file for TurboTax. By our rating, Awaken (9.8) and Summ (9.6) rank highest. Summ, Koinly, CoinLedger, TokenTax and ZenLedger each start at $49 for 100 transactions. None of the nine tools exports a TurboTax file on a free plan or trial.

A tool is in the table when its exports include a TurboTax file. The export column uses the name that the tool gives on its own pages. The plan column shows the lowest paid plan, checked on Oct 25, 2026.

CoinTracking shows its prices only in euros. We did not find a TurboTax export for Recap, Blockpit, Divly or Kryptosekken, so they are not in the table.

Where to get the TurboTax file

The steps are the same in each tool. First, connect or upload the history of your exchanges and wallets. Next, review the transactions that the tool flags. Then buy a plan that covers your transaction count. Last, open the tax reports area of the tool and download the TurboTax file.

Each tool counts transactions in its own way. Awaken counts only the current tax year. CoinTracker counts the transactions in the tax year that you file. Coinpanda counts only the previous calendar year. Summ and CoinTracking count all years together, so a long history can push you into a higher plan.

Billing also differs. Koinly and CoinLedger sell each tax year as a one-time purchase. Awaken sells an annual plan and says that it never auto-charges. Our CoinTracker review notes that the CoinTracker plan renews automatically.

How the TurboTax import works

In TurboTax, find the crypto or investments section and upload the file from your tool. TurboTax then reads the sales in the file. Each sale is short-term or long-term. A sale is long-term when you held the asset for more than one year.

Pick the export that matches your TurboTax product. CoinLedger, for example, lists separate exports for TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop. Our Koinly review notes that TurboTax Online needs manual entry of summary rows. Read the import notes in your tool before you start.

After the import, compare the totals in TurboTax with the Form 8949 report from your tool. Check total proceeds, total cost basis and the net gain or loss. If the totals differ, correct the data in the tool and export the file again. Keep the full Form 8949 report from your tool with your tax records.

Direct connections and other tax software

Some tools describe a closer link to TurboTax than a file download. Our CoinTracker and ZenLedger reviews list a direct TurboTax link. CoinLedger says that it is an "Official TurboTax Partner". TokenTax says that it offers a "One-click export to TurboTax, H&R Block, and TaxAct". We did not test these vendor claims. With each method, the crypto tax tool calculates the gains, and TurboTax receives the result.

Most of the nine tools also export to other tax software. Koinly names TaxACT and FreeTaxUSA. CoinLedger names TaxAct, H&R Block Desktop and TaxSlayer. CoinTracker and Summ name H&R Block. Awaken names TaxACT. If you plan to change tax software, check the export list of your tool before you buy a plan.

Which TurboTax tool fits your portfolio

Your transaction count sets most of the cost. At 1,000 transactions, Koinly Hodler, CoinLedger Investor and Summ Hobbyist cost $99 each. Coinpanda Trader costs $149. Awaken Dolphin and CoinTracker Prime cost $199. TokenTax Premium and ZenLedger Gold also cost $199, and each covers up to 5,000 transactions.

At 10,000 transactions, Summ Investor costs $249 per year. Koinly starts at $299 for 10,000 or more. CoinTracker Ultra costs $499, and Awaken Whale costs $599. Coinpanda Satoshi costs $389 for up to 20,000.

Refund terms differ too. Koinly gives a full refund within 7 days if you have not generated a tax report yet. CoinLedger offers a 14-day money-back guarantee. TokenTax shows no free plan, and we found no refund terms on its pricing page or home page. For on-chain activity and perps, see our Awaken review. For Coinbase users, see our CoinTracker review.

Check your broker forms before you file

For sales on or after Jan 1, 2025, brokers file Form 1099-DA with the IRS. For 2025 sales, the form must show gross proceeds, but brokers do not have to report your cost basis. Your crypto tax tool supplies the basis. Compare the proceeds on each 1099-DA with the same sales in your tool.

The 2025 Form 8949 has new boxes for digital assets. Short-term sales go in box G, H or I. Long-term sales go in box J, K or L. The IRS says not to use box C or box F for digital assets. Check that your TurboTax file uses the new boxes.

The 2025 Form 1040 also asks a digital asset question. The IRS requires a Yes or No answer.

Questions

Does Koinly work with TurboTax?

Yes. Koinly lists TurboTax, TaxACT and FreeTaxUSA among its exports. The Newbie plan costs $49 per tax year for 100 transactions. Our link gives 10% off with no code.

Does CoinTracker work with TurboTax?

Yes. CoinTracker lists TurboTax and H&R Block, and our review lists a direct TurboTax link. CoinTracker says that every past year's forms are included in a plan. CoinTracker has no partner deal or code with us.

Does CoinLedger work with TurboTax?

Yes. CoinLedger lists exports for TurboTax Online and TurboTax Desktop. CoinLedger says that it is an "Official TurboTax Partner". Our partner link takes 10% off, and you do not need a code.

Can I import crypto into TurboTax for free?

Not with the nine tools in our table. Their free plans and trials do not export a tax report. Most of them let you import and review your data for free. You pay when you download the report.

Can I deduct the cost of crypto tax software?

No, not as an individual in 2025 or 2026. IRS Publication 529 says that tax preparation fees, including software, are a miscellaneous itemized deduction that you can no longer deduct. Public Law 119-21 made that suspension permanent. Coinpanda marks its prices "Tax deductible*", but the IRS rule for individuals still applies. Fees for a Schedule C business are a separate question.

Do I still need my Form 1099-DA if I import a file?

Yes, keep it. Your broker reports your gross proceeds to the IRS on Form 1099-DA. Compare those proceeds with the sales in your TurboTax file.
